Tokyo Ever After

I thoroughly enjoyed #TokyoEverAfter by @emikojeanbooks . It was a whirlwind fairytale which was similar to The Princess Diaries and a little sister to Crazy Rich Asians (with a sprinkling of To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before. I loved the honesty and voice of Izzy/Izumi as she navigates finding her birth father to realizing he’s the Crown Prince of the Japanese Monarchy. Many current YA topics and feelings about status, race, ethnicity, and what it feels like to grow up Asian in America are covered. (I wish I had the AGG – Asian Girl Gang as my crew growing up. )It was a treat to explore Japan and a bit of the history through the eyes of Izumi.
